Lamwyk Journal

We share knowledge, experience and insights through the Lamwyk Journal, our flagship publication.

This Winter edition explores innovative ways of protecting polar bears from extinction, the vital importance of responsible mining, the many (and often undervalued) benefits of sleep for entrepreneurs and the continually impressive work of the Army Benevolent Fund.

This Autumn edition explores interesting questions around everything from democratising investing to creating a new generation of invisibility cloaks. We also explore how AI could improve the quality of political debate online, and celebrate the amazing contributions of immigrants to UK society. Even the trickiest of challenges has a solution. We can only reach that happy conclusion by working together and sharing our talents.

This Summer edition has an extra special new look to give you our best reading experience yet. It is packed with insights on everything from filling property finance gaps to fighting antimicrobial resistance and avoiding fake and duplicitous profiles on LinkedIn. We also explore the crisis facing local bus services, a new era of flexible batteries and much, much more. Hopefully everyone reading can find some positivity and inspiration in our articles. Despite challenging times across much of society, there are copious reasons for optimism.

This Spring edition is packed with insights on everything from start-up funding to global debt relief, cyber skills and the enduring value of local libraries. We hope you enjoy reading and wish you a positive and productive Spring.

Welcome to out Winter 2023 edition of our Lamwyk Journal, which we hope will inspire and engage you over the approaching holiday season. In a world where so much content is becoming anodyne and uninspiring we hope this edition can be the antidote to all of that and lift your spirits.

Welcome to our Autumn 2023 edition of The Lamwyk Journal, which is here to provide brain food and to enhance perspectives. So much content is dull regurgitation so we aim to offer thoughtful insights that are pertinent and thought-provoking. In the land of grey tedium we are making a difference. We hope you relish this edition and look forward to keeping you even better informed.

Hello! Welcome to our new edition of our Lamwyk Journal, packed with challenging and interesting articles to tempt your curiosity and shed light across a wide range of topics.

This edition celebrates some of the smart-thinking offering solutions to a whole range of technological, botanical and economic growth challenges. We hope you enjoy redaing!

This edition includes an update on the Chawker adviser portal, now being led by Lisa Beale, as it delivers verified customer feedback to users across a broad range of professional adviser categories. We hear about innovation
in investments from Latitude, Havelock and Nickel. Sally MacDonald writes movingly about the support given to poor families in the Burmese delta, showing that even small amounts of money can achieve a disproportionately large positive effect. Interspaced is a lively article by Dave Trott, who is an advertising legend, as well as other thought-provoking insights. If you are keen on horse racing do read about Ed Seyfried’s Old Gold Racing, it’ll keep you on your toes in 2021.

There is a recurring observation that those in the twilight of their lives reflect on their past successes and failures and often ask “did I make a difference?”. No longer due to COVID will we be chastising ourselves for spending too long
in the office, although we may amend that to an updated version of spending too long on work. So, the reason for this thread of comments is that today one man is making a herculean effort in a demonstration of love for a child and determination against seemingly insurmountable odds.

In a world where there is much to be fearful of and which can look hostile we should remember the indominable spirit of the human race. This ability to adapt and overcome is for me highlighted in this edition by the outstanding Dave Player and his crew at Team BRIT and Kartforce. Dave doesn’t do “no”, but he does innovation by the bucket load. Just like Frank Williams he runs a motorsport team from his wheelchair.

Business is tough for everyone and we are all learning new skills at a rapid rate of knots. As an optimist I am minded to see the glass as half full, but would encourage everyone to help people who they recognise might be finding life less easy. As others have said the least one can do is to be kind.

Welcome to our inaugural Lamwyk Journal which Harry and I are thrilled to launch. Our intention is to create an interesting and eclectic set of articles which, like our own Lamwyk community, showcases reach and range.

We reach a broad audience because we defy business silos and are enthusiastic in bringing people together to foster innovation. Our range is amply demonstrated by the fascinating and diverse set of articles that we have curated for you.

Your support, interest and engagement are highly valued by us. We look forward to bringing you this regular publishers’ commonplace journal, which has a special resonance for me as my late father in law was a notable publisher.
